How to Pair Your Phone with SYNC3

Ford SYNC 3

Safety on the Road with SYNC 3

Ford's software engineers came up with a solution to improve the convenience and safety of the many features in your smart device from behind the wheel. The first step was recognizing that phones aren't the sum of their contacts, phone calls and text messages anymore; they're about the apps. This is the foundation that SYNC was developed on and its latest version brings your center console as close to a standalone tablet as it can get.

With support for third-party app installation along with the usual cabin controls such as climate adjustment and radio, SYNC 3 marks an epic step in the right direction. It connects to your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, interacting with the apps and messaging systems to reflect and handle their contents on the console display. This means that you can finally leave your phone in its cup-holder and interact with a control panel that's safely within your eyesight while driving attentively.

How to Get Started with SYNC 3

Linking your smart device with SYNC 3 is as easy as pairing up with any other Bluetooth device. Different models of Ford vehicle may show slight variations in the operating environment, but these instructions will work for all of them. We'll walk you through the steps to improve your driving experience here.

  1. The first thing you'll want to do is go into your phone or tablet and activate Bluetooth. You can normally do this by pulling down the notification shade and finding the Bluetooth icon among the quick toggles there.
  2. Next, crank the ignition on your Ford and wait for the center console to finish loading. When it's finally come to a rest on the home screen, tap the Phone tab at the bottom. This will take you to a menu.
  3. Thirdly, on this menu, find System Settings, then follow that to Add Bluetooth Device. Here, SYNC 3 will scan the proximity for eligible phones or tablets that it can link up to.
  4. Afterwards, you can go into your device's Bluetooth settings and find Discovery Mode. This may be called Make My Phone Visible or Allow This Device to Be Seen — something of that nature. You may have to expand a fly-out menu to find it.
  5. Lastly, once you've activated that, SYNC 3 and your device will find each other and attempt to pair up. If there are additional instructions on either screen, just confirm that you intend to connect the two together.
