Waze is Coming to Ford SYNC 3

Ford Sync 3 with Waze

In-car connected technology has undergone vast improvements in recent years. Most automotive manufacturers now give drivers the ability to connect their smartphone, or other mobile devices directly to their vehicle’s infotainment system in order to access a wide range of useful apps and functions. Ford is no different in this respect, as its SYNC 3 infotainment system works with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to provide drivers with a wealth of resources at their fingertips. Nonetheless, Ford’s recent announcement that all new vehicles will now be able to connect with the Waze navigation app has still created quite a bit of excitement.

Bring Waze Navigation to Your Favorite Ford

At the 2018 International Consumer Electronic show in Las Vegas, Ford officially unveiled the results of its partnership with Waze that was originally announced in 2017. As part of this announcement, the Detroit automaker indicated that this Waze compatibility is immediately available on all new 2018 Ford models. In addition, the app will soon be available for all Ford vehicles featuring the SYNC 3 infotainment system via a USB update, which means anyone driving most any 2016 or 2017 Ford will also be able to take advantage of Waze’s unique navigation functions.

After connecting your Android or iPhone to your vehicle’s infotainment system via the built-in USB port, all you need to do is open the Waze app on your phone and the app will automatically be displayed on your vehicle’s touchscreen. In this way, you can access Waze’s entire range of intuitive functions, such as Talk to Waze voice commands, crowdsourced navigation and traffic updates, user-created hazards and warnings, weather and road condition reports and much more.

As well, Ford confirmed that its AppLink technology will ensure that SYNC 3 always takes advantage of the latest Waze updates as soon as they are made available. This way drivers can be guaranteed that the experience of using Waze through their SYNC 3 touchscreen will be virtually identical to using the app through their smartphone. You can access the functions of the app using either the touchscreen or voice commands, and you will be able to view turn-by-turn directions on the screen while the navigation instructions also play through your vehicle’s speakers.

Of course, Waze is only one of the many apps available through the Ford SYNC 3 system. By connecting to CarPlay or Android Auto, users also have the ability to download a wide range of other apps and perform a huge number of functions without having to take their hands off the wheel. SYNC 3 lets you compose text messages and write emails, play music, make phone calls, search the web and much more all from your vehicle’s dashboard touchscreen.

Still, the only way to fully understand all of the many benefits that the SYNC 3 system provides is to check it out for yourself firsthand.
