After watching this video, you may want to take a road trip to the west coast for a day of surfing. Woodie wagons date back to the 1930s, but were also popular in the 60s, when they claimed a reference in the Beach Boy's classic hit "Surfin' Safari." Many car enthusiasts consider them uniquely Californian because of their stylish coastal designs and spacious interiors, which offer plenty of room for surfboards. However, no matter where you're from, it's easy to appreciate their one-of-a-kind look.

Jay Leno recently featured a couple of Ford Woodies on his Internet show, "Jay Leno's Garage." The restomods (i.e., restored vehicles virtually identical to stock versions but with modern parts) were expertly crafted by the team at Hot Rods & Hobbies in Signal Hill, Calif. One of the models, a 1937 Ford Woodie, was taken out on the highway and Jay was more than impressed not only by its stunning interior environment, but also by its agile handling and cornering.

The Woodie he test drove included several updated parts, including a V-8 engine, disc brakes, independent suspensions, multiple mufflers to reduce engine noise and other revisions. But cosmetically, the car was fitted to look just like models manufactured decades ago. Check out the video now to scope out the two Ford Woodies featured on the show.
