A lot of truck brands boast about the strength, durability, ruggedness, and capability of their vehicles--as they should. Pickup trucks in Grapevine, Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, and Lewisville today are bigger than ever, able to tow and haul incredible loads that trucks even ten years ago wouldn't be able to dream of.

But is your pickup truck strong and steady where it counts?

The 2016 Ford F-150 is.

640 × 480

In recent testing by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), trucks from five brands--Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, GMC, and Ram--were directly compared for their ability to protect passengers in the event of a crash. Vehicles are rated on a four-point scale: Poor (worst), Marginal, Acceptable, Good (best). While many of the trucks did manage to score well in some areas, only the new Ford F-150 received the highest possible marks in every category:

  • Structure: Good
  • Restraints & kinematics: Good
  • Head & neck: Good
  • Chest: Good
  • Hip & thigh: Good
  • Lower leg & foot: Good
  • Overall: Good

Both F-150 crew cab and extended cab (SuperCab) models were tested for their effectiveness, and both scored "Good" marks across the board to earn a 2016 Top Safety Pick rating. Ford's truck was also the only competitor to score highly on the important small overlap frontal crash; the test designed to replicate a surprisingly common and serious crash scenario.
