Ford is the most popular car brand on Edmunds.com, the most searched for car brand on Google and now the top-hiring brand in the auto industry when it comes to factory positions! When the recession hit, many factory jobs in all industries were eliminated, but as the economy improved Ford refilled all of the positions it lost during the country’s economic slump.
Another part of this headline-making news is that Ford now outpaces General Motors when it comes to the number of factory workers the company employs. Ford has manufactured roughly 125,000 more cars in the U.S. compared to 2007, and while it’s refilled all of its previous factory positions, the company continues to hire at a rapid pace to fulfill consumer demand. This hiring streak has resulted in wage increases for many long-term workers, including employees at plants in Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri who received raises of almost 50 percent.
Several new jobs have been added to support production of the in-demand aluminum F-150. Reps say the truck's new aluminum composition doesn’t make it any more labor intensive to produce; they’ve actually been able to “build the new F-150 with the same labor that we were able to do it before,” according to Adrian Price, director of Ford's manufacturing business office. So more intensive labor is not why added plant workers have been recruited; it’s because the truck has received much stronger sales than anticipated.
