Coming down the road on Ford’s all-new 2017 Fusion V6 Sport is a new technology called Continuous Control Damping with Pothole Mitigation. The new technology is going to aid drivers in keeping their cars’ suspensions safe from damage when driving over potholes and other hazardous faults in the road. Continuous Control Damping with Pothole Mitigation can detect when a tire has fallen into a pothole and signals the suspension to adjust to the conditions, helping shield it from harm.

Ford has a 1.2-mile test track where it evaluates how its cars stand up to the world’s worst road conditions. The area of the track, which is just a portion of a 50-mile test course, includes replicas of some of the world’s most dreaded road surfaces. By testing, Ford is able to determine better ways to create chassis systems that can endure tough road conditions and new technologies like Continuous Control Damping with Pothole Mitigation are also a result.

In addition to this new system, Ford currently offers technologies like Electronic Stability Control and Tire Pressure Monitoring to aid drivers who encounter issues with potholes and other hazards. For example, the former aids drivers in keeping control no matter how bumpy the road is, while the latter can sense if a tire is losing pressure, perhaps from getting punctured when driving over a pothole.
