Imagine enjoying the fuel savings and light weight of a small engine, with the robust capability and passing power of a big engine, all in one tidy and cost-efficient package. With Ford's new lineup of EcoBoost engines in Grapevine, that's exactly what you get.

You can find EcoBoost engines at nearly every level of the new Ford lineup in Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, and Lewisville, from the F-150 pickup truck, to the Escape SUV, all the way to Ford Focus compact sedans and hatchbacks. By marrying turbocharging (the kind of engineering that you find in sports cars) with direct-injection engine technology, Ford has developed an ideal way to create optimal power when you need it, with impressive fuel efficiency when all you need to do is cruise.

And, since these engines deliver breathtaking low-end torque responsiveness, you'll never even know that you're driving with a smaller, lighter-weight engine.

Paul Seredynski, Manager of Global Powertrain Technology Communications for the Ford Motor Company, gives us an insider's view into the real power of equipment like the Ford Focus' 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. Small? Yes. Mighty? Absolutely.

How can Ford's EcoBoost engines deliver such dramatic power, performance, and efficiency, all at the same time? It all comes down to the two halves of its name: the "Eco" and the "Boost".

Gasoline direct-injection is actually fairly widespread across the industry right now, simply because the process of sending the fuel to the engine is less complicated and faster than conventional fuel injection. Faster process = better fuel economy, and that's the "Eco".

The "Boost" comes with the exciting turbocharger; a device that works to force additional air into an engine to produce more power, more easily. The technology adds performance without requiring a larger, heavier engine under the hood. And the best part about the Boost is that it only really engages when you need it, saving as much fuel as possible.
