If you drive a Ford, you may be able to use your phone to start the engine. You can start your car remotely using an app called FordPass, and you can also set up the system to start your vehicle remotely on a timer. FordPass is a comprehensive app with many other useful features, including providing you with updates and alerts on your vehicle's performance. FordPass is included on all 2021 and newer Ford vehicles.
Before You Start
Before you set up FordPass, you will need a compatible phone. You must have either an iPhone or an Android device to download the FordPass app and properly set up the system. Keep in mind that you can also activate FordPass using the Vehicle Controls card with the FordPass system. The card gives you an alternate option for setting up FordPass, and you can also use it as a backup option for accessing your vehicle if you don't have your phone with you or the phone's battery is dead.
Activating Your FordPass
Once you've determined that you have a compatible phone, you can then download the app that supports FordPass, referred to as the FordPass app. Android phone users can download the app from Google Play. If you have an iPhone, you can get the app from the Apple App Store.
Set Up a Ford Owners Account
After downloading the app to your phone, you can set up a Ford Owners Account if you do not have one already. If you are creating an account for the first time, you will need to create your account securely with unique login information. When you set up your account, you can also choose your preferred method of access, either a unique PIN or touch ID. Along with your personal information, you'll need to add information to your account for your car, too. You will also have to register your Ford's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to set up FordPass. The VIN can be entered into your account information by scanning the code on your car or manually entering the number. If you don't know where to find the VIN, we can assist.
Finally, with your car turned off, you will need to add your car's information under the "My Vehicles" section in your account from the homepage. Click in "Add Vehicle" to register the VIN. The last step in the setup process is to hit the "Activate" button.
