Three different powertrain options are available on the Ford Explorer this year. The Base, XLT and Limited come standard with a 3.5L V-6 engine, delivering 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque, while the Sport and Platinum are fitted with a 3.5L turbo V-6 engine, producing 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. Outside of this options, the Base, XLT and Limited can also be equipped with a 2.3L turbo fur-cylinder, which replaces the previously available 2.0L EcoBoost. The new engine exerts 270 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque, and can be paired with all-wheel drive on the 2016 Ford Explorer in Grapevine.
