What's New for the 2019 Ford Mustang?

From the first time Ford dropped a big motor into a mid-size car in 1964 to present day, its Mustang has been an icon of brawn and performance. With an aggressive silhouette and powerful engine, it epitomizes the muscle car. The 2019 Ford Mustang brings all these qualities to the table and more.

The 2019 Ford Mustang is available at Grapevine Ford in two models: The limited-edition Bullitt and the Route 66-ready GT California Special. The Bullitt was unveiled on the 50th anniversary of the classic car-centric movie, "Bullitt," and the GT California Special (or GT/CS) germinated from the 1968 GT/CS Mustang.

The brand-new Mustang ratchets up the robust horsepower that enthusiasts embrace. It's available with an array of upgrades including three new colors, hazard-sensing technology and an all-digital driver information cluster. Here's what you can expect from the 2019 Mustang.

Which New Trims and Features are Available in 2019?

The 2019 California Special flaunts a sporty package including the quintessential Cal Special fading side stripe, new aggressive front splitter and blacked-out grille. It rolls on five-spoke machine-painted wheels. The Special wears its signature badges like medals on its trunk and on the glove box. It houses sumptuous suede seats embossed with the GT/CS insignia and accented with contrasting embroidery.

The 2019 Bullitt retains the original's understated exterior with 19-inch aluminum wheels, red Brembo brakes, black front grill and subtle touches of chrome. Unlike the Cal Special, the Bullitt is cleanly devoid of badges and spoiler. Inside, the Bullitt has a six-way power driver's seat and comes with leather-trimmed bucket seats embellished with Dark Highland Green stitching.

Ford has added new vintage-inspired exterior colors to their Mustang palette: Velocity Blue, Need for Green and the original shade made famous by Steve McQueen, Dark Highland Green. (The 2019 Bullitt is only available in this color or Shadow Black.)

Mustang technology standard on all models is a 12-inch all-digital LCD driver's gauge cluster which tallies performance metrics. An accelerometer displays acceleration times, longitudinal and lateral G-forces and lap times. Another function of the gauge cluster is tracking of your favorite drive times and steering choices. It even allows you to control the volume of your exhaust, from a quiet rumble (Normal) to a roar (Track).

How Powerful is This Year's Muscle Car?

2019 Ford MustangLike the Mustang GT, the California Special has a 5.0-liter "Coyote" V8 under the hood with 460 hp and 420 pound-feet of torque. It tops out at 155 mph. The 2019 Cal Special is equipped with manual transmission as well as a 10-speed automatic one. The manual transmission model is equipped with brand-new rev matching that can be flipped on or off for resounding downshifts.

The 2019 Bullitt also has a 5.0 liter V8 but cranks out 480 hp, accessing 420 pound-feet of torque. The Bullitt gallops up to 163 mph and jolts from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. The 2019 Bullitt is only available with a six-speed manual transmission, giving it the feel of a classic muscle car. The vintage white cue ball shift knob is another appealing classic touch. The car burbles a throaty rumble that nicely quakes through the NitroPlate quad exhausts.

2019 Ford Mustang Safety
